Key Responsibilities
- Build containment areas prior to beginning abatement or decontamination work, including erecting polyethylene barriers, installing negative air machines, and sealing off work zones
- Remove asbestos, lead, mould, and other hazardous materials from surfaces using hand or power tools such as scrapers, vacuums, and high‑pressure sprayers, following all safety protocols
- Load, unload, and transport hazardous waste materials into approved containers or trucks for proper disposal in accordance with federal, provincial, and local regulations
- Assist carpenters with structural tasks including erecting and dismantling concrete forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring, barricades, and temporary support structures
- Assist in the demolition of buildings and structures where hazardous materials have been abated, cleaning and piling salvaged materials for reuse or disposal
- Perform routine maintenance on abatement and carpentry equipment, clean work areas, and remove rubble and other debris from construction and remediation sites
- Follow all WorkSafeBC and Health Canada regulations regarding personal protective equipment, decontamination procedures, and air monitoring
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. You need at least three years of paid work experience as a carpenter or carpenter helper, supported by employment certificates. Experience in working with and installing asbestos is essential. You must be experienced in working in confined spaces and comfortable working in noisy, dusty, hot outdoor environments. A valid driver’s licence is preferred. You must be physically fit for lifting up to nine kilograms, standing, bending, and wearing full personal protective equipment including respirators and full‑body suits. Good oral communication skills in English are required. Filipino citizens aged twenty‑two to forty‑five years with a valid passport are encouraged to apply.
