Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook menu items such as burgers, fried chicken, wings, fries, onion rings, sauces, and sides according to company recipes and portion control standards
- Operate grills, fryers, and other kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, following all manufacturer guidelines and safety protocols
- Prepare ingredients in advance including chopping vegetables, portioning meats, and making sauces to ensure smooth service during peak hours
- Maintain food safety and hygiene standards, including regular temperature checks of chillers and freezers, and proper labeling of prepared items
- Clean food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, and utensils thoroughly, including deep cleaning fryers and grills on a rotating schedule
- Monitor stock levels, rotate products on a first in, first out basis, and report shortages or quality concerns to the manager
- Assist with receiving and storing deliveries, checking temperatures and condition of incoming food items
Qualifications
A high school diploma is required. You need at least one year of relevant cooking experience in a commercial kitchen, fast food outlet, cafe, or restaurant environment. A relevant NZQF Level 3 qualification or equivalent is preferred but not essential. A good understanding of food safety and hygiene practices is required. You must be able to work in a fast paced environment and handle pressure during busy periods. Physical fitness is essential for standing for long periods, bending, and lifting up to ten kilograms. Good communication skills in English are needed for working with team members. Willingness to work a rotating roster including evenings, weekends, and public holidays is required. Benefits and Perks
This full time position pays an hourly wage of NZD 25.00 to NZD 30.00 depending on your experience, which is the current market rate for a fast food cook in New Zealand. Based on a guaranteed minimum of thirty hours per week, your monthly earnings will range from NZD 3,250 to NZD 3,900. Most cooks work thirty five to forty hours per week, which increases monthly earnings to approximately NZD 3,800 to NZD 4,800. Overtime is available at time and a half rates.
