A fast‑growing Filipino‑owned spa business in New Zealand is looking for experienced Massage Therapists to join their team at various locations, including a current opening in the Napier branch. Bamboo Spa Limited has grown from a single location in 2016 to over 16 branches across Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Palmerston North. This role is ideal for a therapist who takes pride in helping clients relieve stress, recover from injury, or simply enjoy a moment of calm in a professional, relaxing environment. You will offer a range of services including Swedish massage, foot reflexology, body scrubs and the traditional Filipino healing art of Hilot. If you have at least two years of verifiable experience, a pleasing personality and a commitment to great customer service, this full‑time position offers a competitive hourly rate of NZD 25 to NZD 32, with a guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week. You will not just perform routines; you will assess clients’ needs, adapt your pressure and technique, and help them achieve genuine physical and mental wellbeing.
Company Overview
The employer is Bamboo Spa Limited, one of the first Filipino‑owned massage day spas in New Zealand and now one of the fastest‑growing in the country. Inspired by the founders’ homeland, the company blends traditional Filipino healing techniques with modern spa practices, using banana leaves instead of hot stones for Hilot treatments and always respecting the therapist‑client boundary. With a strong reputation for cleanliness, skilled therapists and a peaceful atmosphere, Bamboo Spa has earned loyal customers across the North and South Islands. The principal has partnered with PNI International Corporation, a DMW‑licensed recruitment agency based in the Philippines, to handle the hiring process. PNI International Corporation has been recognised as one of the top recruitment firms in the country for over 25 years, specialising in placing Filipino professionals into overseas roles. The agency does not charge illegal placement fees and will assist with visa processing, medical examinations and pre‑departure orientation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide and administer all Bamboo Spa Limited services including Filipino Traditional Hilot Massage, Swedish or Classic Massage, Foot and Leg Reflexology and Body Scrubs, following the company’s standard sequence and technique
- Assess each client’s condition by taking a brief history, asking about the possible cause of any pain, spasm or injury, and determining the exact location(s) of discomfort
- Massage and knead muscles and soft tissues of the body to provide treatment for medical conditions, injuries or wellness maintenance, using appropriate deep pressure on trigger points to release spasms and restore function
- Apply relaxation massage (medium, slow‑flowing) and therapeutic massage (deep pressure) to improve lymphatic and blood circulation, increase oxygen flow to muscles and ligaments, and help limit injury
- Communicate clearly with each client during the treatment, monitor for any negative reactions, and adjust pressure or technique accordingly
- Provide remedial massage when necessary for problems of tissue dysfunction, and advise clients on stretching exercises, relaxation techniques and lifestyle needs to help them stay pain‑free
- Maintain a clean, hygienic and well‑organised treatment room, restock supplies as needed, and follow all health, safety and infection control procedures
Qualifications
A high school diploma is required. You need at least two years of verifiable experience as a massage therapist; experience in a beauty salon or massage spa is an advantage. Applicants with at least one year of very recent experience in a massage clinic or parlour will be given preference. Basic knowledge of anatomy, musculoskeletal structure, how the human body functions, and massage techniques is essential. You must either already have knowledge of the ancient Filipino art of Hilot, or be willing to be trained to become a Hilot Massage Practitioner. A pleasing personality and great customer service skills are a must. You must be willing to work weekend shifts and public holidays. A willingness to undergo a pre‑employment drug test and occasional tests while employed is required. Good English communication skills are needed to interact with clients and keep basic records. Filipino citizens aged twenty to forty‑five years with a valid passport are encouraged to apply.
