Key Responsibilities
- Prepare concrete surfaces by removing dirt, rust, grease, old coatings, and other contaminants using diamond grinding (hand and planetary), shot blasting, bush hammering, and sanding techniques
- Operate various commercial planetary grinders (remote and walk‑behind), hand grinders (5‑inch and 9‑inch), and commercial vacuums to achieve the required surface profile for specialty coatings
- Inspect prepared surfaces to ensure they meet the required standards and specifications before coatings are applied
- Work alongside the preparation manager and other team members to plan and complete projects within set timeframes
- Liaise with client and contractor representatives on‑site as required, maintaining a professional and helpful manner
- Apply primers, sealants, and protective coatings as necessary to ensure a durable and high‑quality finish
- Complete daily quality assurance documents and ensure the work site is left clean and tidy with all equipment and products removed
Qualifications
- At least two years of paid work experience in surface preparation, including diamond grinding, shot blasting, or similar techniques
- Full New Zealand driver’s licence (required)
- No criminal record (required)
- Ability to read and follow work instructions and safety guidelines
- Attention to detail and a strong work ethic
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends if required
- Physically fit for lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
- Construction certifications such as Sitesafe or surface preparation certification are an advantage but not required
- High school diploma is required
