What You Will Do Every Shift
You will greet customers warmly and take their orders accurately. You will prepare and serve espresso based drinks under the guidance of experienced baristas. You will handle cash and card transactions through the till system. You will keep the counter, seating area, and coffee equipment clean and organised. You will restock cups, lids, milk, and beans as needed throughout the morning rush. You will assist with opening duties such as setting up the pastry display and checking temperatures. What We Are Looking For
You do not need previous barista experience, but it is a bonus. More importantly, you must be hospitable and genuinely engaged in building relationships with customers. You need to be confident working on the floor and holding your own during busy periods. A love for coffee and a desire to learn are essential. You should be comfortable standing for four hour shifts and lifting up to 10 kilograms. Strong communication skills in English are required. You must have New Zealand residency or a valid work visa. No degree is mentioned or required. Reliability is critical because the morning shift starts at 8am. You should live within a reasonable distance of Shortland Street in Auckland CBD. A positive attitude and willingness to help without being asked will make you stand out.
Pay and Benefits
The hourly rate for this part time role is between NZD 23 and NZD 25 per hour depending on experience. That aligns with current market rates for cafe assistants in Auckland CBD.
